In Agia Marina within the Dead Zone in Deryneia will be celebrated again this year on March 2, 2020, Shrove Monday.
A written announcement of the Municipality of Deryneia states that "after the approval of the request of the Municipality to the United Nations, Clean Monday will be celebrated this year on March 2, 2020, from 9 am to 5 pm, in the church of Agia Marina in the Dead Zone" .
It is added that the participants are invited to comply with the instructions of the United Nations and to be limited to the area around the Church. Private cars will be allowed on site to the point designated by the United Nations.
The Municipality of Deryneia expects an increased presence of several visitors in the Dead Zone this year due to the overflow of the Deryneia dam, which is located behind the church of Agia Marina and next to the occupied beach of Deryneia. The church of Agia Marina will remain open for pilgrimage, while hikers will have the opportunity to rejoice and enjoy the nature and the wonderful spectacle from the dam of Agia Marina.
