Famagusta: Fire Brigade responds to 49 calls for floods

The calls to which the Fire Service (PY) responded in the past 85 hours, due to the heavy rains throughout Cyprus, were launched at 24.

In particular, the fire brigade responded to 69 calls due to heavy rainfall, the majority (49) came from the free District of Famagusta. The remaining 20 concerned the remaining Provinces with most (17) the Nicosia District.

"The calls concerned rainwater pumping from basements, residential hotels, towing vehicles in safe areas, rescuing people trapped in their vehicles on the roads, moving trees after falls," said a statement from the Ministry of Health, signed by the spokesman. Andreas Kettis, adding that the Police as well as crews of the Civil Defense and the Municipalities of Paralimni and Ayia Napa contributed to the firefighting service's response work.

Out of a total of 85 calls, in addition to those related to rainfall, the Ministry of Defense responded to six calls for fires, eight for special services and two false calls.
