In detail, the announcement:

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Famagusta (EVEA), on the occasion of the recent statements of the Honorable Mayor of Paralimni Mr. Theodoros Pyrillis, makes the following clarifying announcement:

Our refugee Chamber, despite the objective difficulties it faces, is constantly developing rich action and strong participation in the economic events of the place. With a clear vision, responsibility and constructive spirit, we cooperate with the Government, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the other development agencies of the place to strengthen the economy, improve the position of the business world and the development of the whole Province.

We emphasize once again that the headquarters of EVEA is in Famagusta. Our temporary offices in Paralimni (and soon in the Ayia Napa Marina), and in Limassol aim to provide the most immediate service to all its members, regardless of where their business is located. EVEA continues to worthily represent the entire business world of the Province of Famagusta (occupied and free) and in general its 8 Municipalities and 90 communities.

The repeated disparaging positions and views of the Mayor of Paralimni, only serve, is the division of the Province of Famagusta into "free" and "occupied", based on absolute financial criteria of a small portion of businessmen. A civil division and an introversion that reinforces from within, the accomplishments of the very invasion and occupation of our country by the Turkish invader for 44 years.

In no case do we share such dichotomous views. It is offensive and unacceptable for Mr Pyrillis to emphasize that all our displaced fellow citizens, who for various reasons are doing business outside the Province of Famagusta, should not be treated the same or should be discriminated against, deleting the their own origin. Such views should be expressed primarily with "National" instead of "Economic" guide, especially by people who hold high positions in municipalities, such as Mr. Pyrillis.

We assure our business world that our non-negotiable goal is to equally represent and defend the interests of all our entrepreneurs, regardless of their place of work or residence.

We call on the people of the Province of Famagusta (without distinguishing between "free" and "occupied") and especially all businessmen to remain united. Our silence and tolerance should not be seen as a weakness. The restoration of the truth against the various separatist tendencies, as expressed through statements of the Mayor of Paralimni himself in various media, is an urgent need.

They artificially and deliberately hide the fact that most of the projects in the free province of Famagusta, such as the Ayia Napa Marina, the Larnaca-Famagusta highway, the internal road network, the tourist development, the industrial areas and zones, the hospital, the southern pipeline, Other mature projects that follow, became possible after the intense efforts of EVEA, in consultation and cooperation, both with the current and previous governments and local authorities.

In addition and to restore the truth, our Board of Directors meets both in our offices in Limassol and in Paralimni, due to the dispersion of its members. Five members of our current Board of Directors have their main activity in our Free Province while we have addressed an invitation to the Municipalities of the area to nominate additional businessmen for representation in the Board. It is further emphasized that a large number of EVEA members are currently active in free Famagusta and that our general meetings take place either at the Famagusta Cultural Center in Deryneia or at our member hotels in the area of Protaras and Ayia Napa.

We share the concerns and positions expressed from time to time by various members, as well as by other entrepreneurs that Famagusta and the province of Famagusta as a whole are not satisfactorily represented in decision-making centers, so we are working intensively for a more dynamic and active representation.

On the occasion of the New Year, the Board of Directors of EVEA expresses its warmest wishes to all its members and the entire business world of Cyprus for a happy, profitable and productive new year that will bring freedom throughout Cyprus. ”
