In fact, according to information cited by the newspaper, they are annoyed by the attitude of the neighboring municipality, a fact that led to an extraordinary session of the Municipal Council the day before yesterday, which unanimously issued a caustic statement which it commented in soft tones with a statement yesterday to "Phileleftheros" Theodoros Pyrillis.

Specifically, the Municipal Council of Ayia Napa unanimously decided on Tuesday night that "in the context of the Local Government reform, it will favor the unification with the Municipality of Sotiras and the community of Liopetri, also leaving open the possibility for other communities to join," new municipality ".

The new municipality will enjoy all the benefits of tourism, branding, but also of the strong financial position of Ayia Napa, it is mentioned in an announcement of the Municipal Council. It is added that, according to the decision of the Municipal Council, these three entities enjoy a common coastal front and common tourism development with excellent prospects for future development, while having common socio-economic characteristics. It will be the largest tourist municipality in Cyprus.

The mayor of Ayia Napa, Giannis Karousos stressed to "Phileleftheros" again that the Municipality of Ayia Napa chooses to unite with those who want to be part of it and with those who want to cooperate with it "and not with those who want to absorb it and This is a common belief of the citizens of Ayia Napa ". The decision of the Municipal Council of Ayia Napa, he added, is based on a study by an Italian house of known value that specializes in such issues. Mr. Karousos also said that in his opinion in free Famagusta two equal municipalities should be created in which the two privileged of the province (Ayia Napa and Paralimni) are not together, but in separate municipalities so as to help and strengthen the rest.

On the part of Paralimni, the mayor Theodoros Pyrillis chose to comment on the decision of the Municipality of Ayia Napa in soft tones. Speaking to "Phileleftheros", Mr. Pyrillis stated that "Paralimni has no problem in any shape, (Municipality) even if it joins". "Our intention," he added, "is if there is a liberation of Famagusta, to join the municipality of the royal city of Famagusta."

The mayor of Paralimni also referred to recent statements in which he had stressed that "the Municipality of Paralimni, took a position regarding the mergers by supporting the merger scenario of all four municipalities (Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Deryneia, Sotira) in one municipality, and the sensitivities of each municipality separately ". A scenario that, as he claimed, would bring savings for the participants to more than seven million euros per year. For the benefit of the citizens with the execution of new projects and infrastructures and the reduction of taxes in all the municipalities which would be drastic. In any other scenario, anyone who joins Paralimni will justifiably feel rejected.
