With special brilliance, the Famagusta prefecture honored today the 42nd Pancyprian March of Christodoulas of the Cyprus Cancer Association.
The importance of the course in free Famagusta is special as the hikers follow the half course that Christodoula made almost 43 years ago. Christodoula, uprooted by Saint Memnon of Famagusta from the hordes of Attila and betrayed by the incurable disease, reached the Savior and helplessly left her last breath under an orange tree, where today is a monument dedicated to her memory.
The beginning of the march was announced by the Mayor of Deryneia, the Speaker of the Parliament, Dimitris Syllouris. The hikers ended up at the Christodoula monument in Sotira where a prayer was returned in memory of Christodoula and all the victims of cancer. 42 red balloons were released into the air symbolizing the 42 paths of hope and the fight against cancer.
