Under 8-day detention 35-year-old for possession of about two kilos of cannabis

The District Court of Famagusta issued on Thursday an eight-day detention order against a 35-year-old man from Xylotympos to facilitate the police investigations into investigated cases of possession of a controlled drug of Class B, possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of Class B conspiracy to commit a crime and money laundering.

The offenses concern possession of green cannabis plant material weighing about two kilos.

According to the Police, on March 30, while members of the YKAN Headquarters were in Xylotympou, on the territory of the British Dhekelia Bases for information investigation, they found that 35 years from Xylotympou were moving suspiciously in an open area.

Members of the British Base Police were immediately informed, who visited the scene and after searching the area, found a large white bag in a tree, in which there were two nylon bags containing green dry hemp plant material weighing about 2 kilos.

The 35-year-old was arrested by the police of the British Bases of Dhekelia and during a physical search he was found in possession of the amount of 900 euros.

By decree, the man was kept in the detention facilities of the British Bases until yesterday, April 5, when he was handed over to members of YKAN Famagusta for further investigation of the case.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 35-year-old was arrested with a court warrant and was taken into custody, while yesterday he appeared before the District Court of Famagusta for the issuance of a detention order.

The Court reserved for today its decision regarding the request of the Police for eight days of detention of the 35-year-old, a request which it accepted.
