After what was heard on Thursday during the sitting of the Parliamentary Audit Committee, the competent Ministry in today's announcement tries to clarify the things regarding the decision of selection of the specific building.

The relocation of government services to Paralimni is in line with the decision of the Council of Ministers, dated 23/5/2014, designated by the Center of the Municipalities of Paralimni and Ayia Napa as an urban center of the District of Famagusta, until the liberation of the city of Famagusta. It is noted that Paralimni is the largest Municipality of the Free District of Famagusta and the Administrative Center of the area. Upon receipt of the tenders, the announcement of which was made on the basis of the legal procedure, a Evaluation Committee was appointed by the Ministry of Interior, headed by the Deputy Prefect of Famagusta. The Commission recommended to the Housing Authority of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works that the building be owned by a Cypriot company.
The Housing Agency, chaired by General Manager Mr. Michaelides and a member, among others, the Assistant General Accountant, negotiated with a representative of the owner and reached an excellent agreement, in which they managed to reduce the rent from € 27.000 per month to € 18.000. for a nine-year rental period. Thus, during the nine years there will be savings of approximately € 1.9 million.
The Secretary of the Council of Ministers is in charge of monitoring the implementation of decisions of the Council of Ministers and the coordination of the Government Project. As part of his responsibilities, he attended meetings of the Central Agency for the Housing of State Services (KFSKY), in order to speed up the proceedings that were pending for two years.
Based on the current procedure regarding the rental of buildings, there was no provision for examination by the K.F.S.K.Y. of the final shareholders of the company, which would secure the offer. It is emphasized, however, that the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works has already ordered an examination of this aspect, henceforth. In addition, in order to ensure further transparency, the Minister of Transport intends to submit a proposal to amend the existing procedure, so that the Director of Internal Control of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works is present.
