In recent days, complaints have been received from the Police (TAE Limassol) about a person pretending to be a police officer and trying to extract money.

The specific person, after calling elderly people, pretends to be a police officer and asks for money in order to settle the cases of their relatives who are pending.

In one case, he called a 70-year-old woman and, after introducing himself as a police officer, told the woman that her son had been dragged away by his car and had fatally injured a baby girl.

The person in question, told the 70-year-old that she could have settled the issue so that her son would not go to prison, if he was paid the sum of 120,000 euros.

To convince the woman of the correctness of what she was saying, she gave her on the phone to someone else, who, crying, pretended to be her son and told her "mother, do what they tell you".

The 70-year-old realized that it was not her son and reported it to a relative, where the Police was informed.

Similar incidents have been reported in other provinces.

We call on the public to be especially careful and if they come to their senses to inform the Police immediately.

We also urge the public to inform their relatives (elderly) about the existence of such cases of fraud.
