On November 11, 2016, while members of UNFICYP were on patrol in a village in the province of Famagusta, inside the Dead Zone, they located three people who were in possession of xoverga. The United Nations informed them that they were inside the Dead Zone and asked them to show entry, which they did not do, and then one of them attacked a pacifier by pulling it by the sleeve.

UNFICYP, in a written letter, reported the incident to the Chief of Police and the case was immediately assigned to the Anti-Crime Headquarters.

The three persons, aged 33, 40 and 45, were located and charged with the crimes they committed, while the 40-year-old was arrested after a search of his home in the province of Famagusta, found in a cold room, twelve frozen vines.

The case was quickly completed and heard on February 22, 2017 by the Famagusta District Court.

The three men were fined € 300 each for possessing the spearheads, while the person who attacked the pacifier was fined an additional € 400 for a joint attack, and the person in whose possession the vines were found was fined an additional € 250.

This year's hunting season ended on February 28, 2017. However, it is emphasized to all hunters that hunting, and in particular the carrying of firearms within the dead zone is prohibited and they are advised to abide by the laws and regulations.
