Iran has launched a "successful" test of its new 2.000-kilometer Khoramshahr missile capable of carrying multiple warheads, according to state television, which broadcast images from inside the missile.

The announcement comes at a time when the climate is very tense between Iran and the United States, with President Donald Trump threatening Washington with withdrawal from the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, which the United States, along with five other major powers, signed with Tehran in 2015.

State television footage showed the rocket fired. Images taken from inside the rocket were then transmitted.

The date of the launch was not known but yesterday, Friday, at the presentation of the missile during the military parade on the anniversary of the start of the war between Iraq and Iran in 1980, an Iranian official said that the missile will be "operational in the near future." future".

The Iran nuclear deal signed in 2015 with the major powers does not ban ballistic missiles in Iran, but Security Council Resolution 2231, which approved the deal, urges Iran not to develop missile-capable activities. to carry nuclear warheads.

Iranian officials say the missiles in their country are not designed to carry nuclear warheads and that, in general, Tehran has no plans to build nuclear weapons.

"The 2.000-kilometer Khorramshahr missile can carry several conventional warheads to hit several targets at once," said General Admiral Hajizadeh, commander of the Revolutionary Guards air force, the Iranian IRNA news agency reported yesterday.

Iranian officials say their country has the technology to increase its missile range, which is currently limited to 2.000 km.
Iran already has two more missiles, the Ghadr-F and the Sejil, which have a range of 2.000 km and can reach Israel and US bases in the region.
