Yesterday and today, the leadership of the Famagusta Police Directorate had meetings with the municipal authorities of Paralimni and Ayia Napa. These meetings are part of the cooperation between the Police and the local authorities, to create even better living conditions, security and service to the public.
During the meetings, the excellent cooperation that exists between the Police and all local bodies was underlined. At the same time, ways were discussed to deal with various problems arising from the arrival of a large number of tourists in the above areas, mainly during the summer months.
A written statement from the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that "the meeting took place in preparation for better policing in the new summer season. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Ayia Napa Giannis Karousos, the Police Director of Famagusta Antonis Papakonstantinou, the Assistant Director Christakis Papadimitriou, Officers of the Famagusta Police Department, members of the Municipal Council of Agia Napsoi ".
It is added that the meeting "discussed at length the problems faced by the region at the beginning of the tourist season, which is marked by the descent of tens of thousands of tourists in the region and proposed concrete solutions to address them.
These proposals will be submitted to the Municipal Council in order to take the required decisions ".
It was noted during the meeting that "because the tourists attracted to the region come mainly from European countries and Russia, special emphasis will be placed on the issue of terrorism, which in recent years has reached alarming proportions.
"The aim is to take the necessary measures to deal with any kind of terrorist act and to exclude any negative climate to the detriment of Cyprus, since due to its proximity to countries in the Middle East and North Africa, the risk is still extremely high."
According to the announcement, "during the meeting, the excellent cooperation that has developed in recent years between the Police, the Local Authorities and all local bodies was noted. The participants expressed the belief that the specific meetings will continue in order to address all the problems that arise, especially those related to criminal or delinquent situations ".
