He met yesterday with the UN special adviser on the Cyprus issue.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Dimitris Christofias, will be received today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Stavros Dimas, who is paying a two-day visit to Cyprus.

He will also meet with Parliament Speaker Giannakis Omirou and Archbishop Chrysostomos, while laying a wreath at the imprisoned memorials.

At noon, he will meet with Erato Kozakos' counterpart Marcoullis, followed by statements by the two ministers.

Late last night, Mr. Dimas had his first meeting with the UN Secretary General's Special Adviser, Alexander Downer.

Greece is committed to a solution to the Cyprus problem, which is fair, sustainable, functional and within the framework of the UN resolutions and in line with the acquis communautaire, Mr. Dimas stressed.

In statements, at Larnaca airport, upon his arrival, Mr. Dimas expressed his emotion that he is visiting Cyprus in the first days of his tenure as Foreign Minister. "I must emphasize that Cyprus has been and remains the top priority of our foreign policy," he said.

"Greece", he continued, "supports, is committed to the pursuit of a joint solution that will be fair, sustainable, operational within the United Nations and in line with the acquis communautaire." Source: Newsbeast.gr
