Snowstorm: How to explain the rare phenomenon that occurs throughout Greece

A situation that has the characteristics of a common storm, with lightning and thunder, but instead of rain - or with the rain - it snows.

Intime 5 SUMMER, BAD SUMMER HOPE

A rare, for the Greek data, meteorological phenomenon is in progress, during the bad weather "Elpis", it is the snowstorm.

It is a snowstorm, a situation that has the characteristics of a common storm, with lightning and thunder, but instead of rain - or with the rain - it snows.

Snowstorms, which some call winter storms, are an unusual type of storm (occurring only a few months of the year) that is accompanied by snow instead of rain.

However, the intensity of the snowfall from a (snow) cumulus ink is greater than the intensity of the snowfall produced by the black layers or the thick topsoils. Snowfall of up to 15 cm has been observed during the life of a snowstorm.

However, thermodynamically, the snowstorm does not differ from the other storms, except for the fact that the peaks of the cumulus inks do not reach great heights. "Otherwise, the thunder of a snowstorm is not heard from a distance of more than 2 or 3 kilometers because the snow absorbs its sound and at night the lightning appears brighter due to the reflection of light from the flakes."

Snowstorms occurred in the eastern continents and the Aegean but also in Attica where the snowfall started in the early hours of Monday and the largest volume of snow will fall until Tuesday at noon.

Meteorologists: Dangerous and historical bad weather

Meteorologists, who use the terms "snowstorm" and "snowstorms" to describe bad weather that will go down in history, explain that this is not an ordinary snowfall, but a dangerous phenomenon, as the snow is accompanied by lightning.

Dimitris Ziakopoulos mentioned characteristics: "Snow is beautiful and adored by many people, but it is also extremely dangerous when the snowfall is heavy and accompanied by strong winds.". And he explains:

"Regarding the danger of the impending snowstorm, we keep:

(a) the word blizzard, which means a strong blizzard, that is, a power level above the snowstorm;

(b) the word snowsquall, which means sudden heavy snowfall with drifting snow and strong winds; and

(c) thundersnows.

The meteorologist, Giannis Kallianos for his part stressed that this bad weather will go down in history.
