Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire that broke out at noon on Thursday at the Athenaeum Palace Hotel located on Syggrou Avenue.

According to information, the fire started on the first floor in a small kitchen with the flames burning two rooms and the smoke rising quickly to the upper floors.

The fire brigade has released 20 people so far. Seven people were trapped on a sixth-floor balcony. Three were released from the stairwell and two with the help of an external staircase: one from the 6th floor and the second from the 7th.

Of the people released, three were taken to Attikon. A 24-year-old is hospitalized with intubation due to inhalation burn, a 32-year-old with severe respiratory problems and a 25-year-old with fractures.

In fact, on the second floor there was a strong smell of oil.

At the scene, 35 firefighters attempted with 10 vehicles, which will remain at least until 2:30 pm in order to check the hotel room-by-room.
