What would you say to the photographer if he asked you to photograph you again happy and relieved?
"That I am happy because not a single human life was lost!"
For that day, Mrs. Panagiota added: "At 2.30 at night, a friend called me to prepare some things in case we have to leave to be saved. At dawn, the sky was red. The fire had "swallowed" the slope and was moving. With the hoses we were trying to save our houses. Suddenly, our foreheads circled. The fire went down from the left side. I started shouting: 'Help, we're burning'. The children who were fighting with the flames came and saved us. I passed out. Those who were nearby ran to give me first aid… "
While continuing, "In Pefki, they had put two ferries and those who had left their homes could go there. They had water, chairs to sit on, blankets. My husband and I started for Pefki, but the flames caught up and cut off access. Pefki was also burning! No one could pass. We managed and went to Neos Pyrgos, where we were hosted by a family of friends. "Our clothes had turned white from the ashes."
How did you find out that your photo went viral?
"Early in the morning I hear: 'Yula! Your photo is in all the newspapers, in all the channels. It's everywhere'. I replied: 'I do not care! Was our village saved? '".
How did you feel when you saw your photo become known across the border?
"I did not expect it… At that moment I was shouting not only for myself. For the whole village. And if I could ask for something, I want them to love the suffering world. He lost his homes, his property, his jobs. Help them! And to be careful that such a disaster does not happen again ".
