A seismic tremor of 5,7 on the Richter scale occurred at 9:25 in Kythira. It was especially felt in Athens.
The earthquake was very strong and in fact after a few seconds another one followed.
The Euro-Mediterranean Institute announced a magnitude 6 earthquake.
The epicenter was reported at 74 km from the sea. west of Chania.
The earthquake was felt in Athens and the Peloponnese.
The first estimate speaks of a focal depth of 56km.
Speaking on Open TV, Vassilis Papazachos was reassuring, as he stressed "These are earthquakes that happen. We are not worried. It happened at a great focal depth, around 80 kilometers ".
For his part, Efthymios Lekkas in a statement on Open TV gave the magnitude of the earthquake from 5,8 Richter to 6 Richter, while adding that there is no need to panic and worry.
With Egelados' deadly blow to Albania fresh and many people searching for a crevice of life in the ruins as is easily understood the concern was great, however, apparently there are no casualties or serious damage.
