"Mother, I am afraid, we are drowning!": The last words of a 36-year-old who lost his life in Mandra

George Makarounas, father of a 3,5 year old child, died tragically when, getting out of his truck, he was swept away by the rushing waters

The loss of 15 of our fellow human beings from the deadly disaster in Western Attica "sealed" in the most tragic way the lives of dozens of their relatives, who lost their loved ones from one moment to the next.

The story of the death of one of the victims, George Makarounas, is really shocking.

The unfortunate 36-year-old, who worked as a truck driver, was trapped in Mandra in his vehicle by the rushing waters, and was talking to his mother on the phone, shortly before he died. "Mother, I'm afraid, we'm drowning!" were his last words…
He described the situation to her and looked scared. When he tried to get out of the truck, the phone line suddenly closed.

The 36-year-old man and father of a 3,5-year-old child was swept away by a torrent and added to the list of victims of deadly bad weather.
