An unlikely incident occurred in Rhodes, where an 84-year-old woman was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 5.000 euros by the Single-Member Criminal Court of Rhodes for arbitrary construction.
Only the old woman has… left this useless world for 19 whole years!
The element that makes the decision even more absurd is that the act for which she was accused was committed 12 years after her death.
What happened
According to rodiaki.gr, her 70-year-old son was also accused in the same case, who was informed about the conviction of himself and his dead mother, by the Tax Office, which recently sent him a document asking him to pay more than 10.500 euros, as confirmed debts for this case!
It all started in mid-November 2019 when the 70-year-old received a debt notification from the Independent Public Revenue Authority - AADE (with a retirement date in early October 2019), at his home in the city of Rhodes, where he has lived for the last thirty years. When the 70-year-old took the paper from the Revenue Department, he was surprised to find that he owed and had to pay the amount of 10.580 euros!
After a relevant search in the competent Directorate of Financial Services (Tax Office) of Rhodes, they informed him that it was a conviction against him and against his mother with the amount of a fine of 5.000 euros for each of them, plus court costs!
The 70-year-old immediately contacted his lawyer who undertook to investigate the case in order to find out why they owed this money.
Indeed, the investigation of the case revealed that the mother of the 70-year-old may have died in 2000 at the age of 84, but on November 12, 2012, she and her son were abandoned by police on a small island in the Dodecanese to carry out arbitrary construction work. and specifically to have covered and paved with concrete pit 20 sq.m. in order to create a fence inside the privately owned erected building without a permit!
In fact, the case file shows that an autopsy was performed by the Police, which had located the 70-year-old and his dead mother at 10:30 in the morning of November 12, 2012 to close the pit in question!
The case was examined by the Single Member Misdemeanor Court of Rhodes on March 1, 2016 after a report of oral complaint submitted by the police officer who had performed the ψ autopsy!
The court, despite the fact that neither the 70-year-old nor his παρουσιά mother appeared before him, found them guilty and sentenced them to 6 months in prison and a fine of 5.000 euros each.
It is noted that the 70-year-old did not appear in court, for the reason that he never received a summons to know that he is being tried!
In fact, the data of the case file show that both the 70-year-old and his deceased mother are persons of unknown residence and their calls were served on the Municipality of Rhodes in order to follow the wall-painting process.
The 70-year-old has now filed an appeal with the Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Rhodes, in order to clarify all the above information and to clarify the case, the continuation of which will be given soon in the courtroom.
