The foreigner of Syrian origin who was brought yesterday afternoon from the Holy Church of Agios Panteleimon in the center of Athens was arrested on charges of violence against employees and violation of the laws on weapons and on foreigners.

In more detail, according to ELAS, yesterday afternoon, the accused entered the Temple, having a knife in his possession. OPKE police officers immediately arrived at the scene, managing to remove him from the interior of the Temple, despite his strong resistance, while the knife was found and confiscated from the physical searches.

As it emerged from the preliminary investigation by the police officers of the Police Department, with the assistance of an Officer of the Sub-Directorate of State Security, the arrested person had entered the country illegally and lacked the necessary travel documents provided for entry and stay in Greek territory.

As pointed out in the relevant announcement: "The Greek Police will continue to be on constant alert and alert to avoid and deal with such phenomena, with the aim of strengthening the sense of security among the citizens."
