Her face was associated with one of the most important moments of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. The then small Fotini Papaleonidopoulou, captivated the audience at the crowded Olympic Stadium, extinguishing the Olympic flame in front of thousands of spectators at the Closing Ceremony of the Games.
Almost 14 years later, Fotini kept the Olympic Flame again, as a torchbearer for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
She wrote on social media excitedly:
"After 14 years, I had the honor of holding the Olympic Flame again. ΕIt's a special day for me because of its symbolism.
Then as a 10-year-old I was told to put out the flame that marked the end of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004. Yesterday I had to do something different. To transmit the light. I think this role suits me better. After all, my name means Light!
Thank you again!".
