Images reminiscent of an ancient tragedy unfolded just before 14:00 noon on Tuesday (9.1.2024) at the Veria hospital, where the grandparents of a child carried a dead 6-month-old infant who had been killed by his mother. The 37-year-old woman was arrested by the authorities.
According to the testimonies of people who were there, the grandfather and grandmother went to the hospital in a state of insanity, with the little boy, their daughter's child, in their arms.
The infant was clearly abused. Already, since his arrival at the hospital, he had no pulse, while he showed no reaction. According to information, she strangled her child, who was also seriously injured. The doctors made superhuman efforts to revive him but were in vain.
According to the same information, suspicions for the infant's death are directed at his mother, who has a history of hospitalizations for psychiatric problems and has been arrested. The infant was at home with his mother and grandparents while the father was away. The grandparents took the baby to the hospital, but it was already too late for him.
The grandparents said that their daughter had strong psychological problems and suffers from severe depression, while according to information, she had been hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic. The woman, 37 years old, a resident of Makrohori and mother of two other minor children, was arrested and is being held at the Imathia Police Department.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
