The new head of the FIFA technical committee, Marco van Basten, gave a revealing interview to "SportBILD" about the changes in the football regulations that FIFA is considering!

Without exaggeration, if what Marco van Basten revealed is applied, then in a few years we will be talking about a completely different football, compared to what is true today.

In summary, some of the most important changes under consideration are the elimination of offside, the penalty of dismissal for a certain period of time instead of a yellow card, penalty with fora instead of extension, timer in the last minutes of the matches to avoid delays, dismissal of five fouls and more changes.

Commenting on the removal of the offside, Marco Van Basket commented: "My personal opinion: I am very curious about what football would be like without the offside. I'm afraid a lot of people would be against it. I would be in favor, because football now looks more and more like handball: nine players plus the goalkeeper in the large area, which looks like a wall. It is very difficult to break it. All teams rely on the same effective tactics, based on a solid defense. Without offside, the attackers can be behind the defenders, which would make it more difficult for them. If they move far back, close to their home, the striker will have more chances to shoot from a distance. This will make the game more attractive, the attackers will have better opportunities, more goals will be scored. This is what the fans want to see. "The teams will adapt to the new football."

Regarding the suspension for a certain period of time, he said: "There are a few yellow cards for the attacking team. One idea is to replace the yellow card with a five or ten minute penalty. This will cause concern. It is more difficult to play 10 against 11, let alone 8 or 9 against 11 ”.

For the penalty shootout: “Each team has five attempts. The referee whistles, then the player runs from 25 meters towards the goalkeeper. The action must be completed within eight seconds. The goalkeeper can not get out of the big area and if he blocks, then it's all over. This is impressive for the spectators and interesting for the footballer. In this process, there are more possibilities: the player can dribble, shoot, wait for the goalkeeper's reaction. "It's more like a competitive situation."

For the timer in the last minutes: “We understand the problem of time. The spectators want to see action, goals, duels. The slower the change, the execution of a foul or the first aid to an injured player, the more time is lost. We have to be careful with that. That's why we also discuss making the last 10 games of the match a period of effective time. "The ball has to roll constantly in those ten minutes, because when a team is ahead before the end, it does everything to 'gnaw' time, with changes for example."

For the dismissal in five fouls: "I had the idea that a defender, as in basketball, can only do up to five fouls, then he should leave the game".

Finally, for most changes, he noted: "There are important reasons why a coach would like this, but that means a maximum of twelve changes. It would be a waste of time. We are talking about one or two additional changes in the extension, which I find good. "Nevertheless, the game and its flow must be protected and not be affected by it."
