The termination of the institution of school savings - at least as we know it today - is brought by the decision of the Pancyprian Conference of 100 representatives of POED, which ended with the withdrawal of the tripartite agreement of 1993, between the Cooperation of the Confederation of Primary Parents and itself.
In the announcement of the decision, the organized parents expressed their dissatisfaction, both for the intention to terminate the institution and for the unannounced, as they characterized it, decision of the POED. As a result, a meeting is scheduled to discuss the issue.
The president of the Confederation of Primary Parents, Morfakis Solomonidis, expressed his dissatisfaction to "F", for the practice applied by POED, which he characterizes as a "normal practice". To decide on its own and to annul timeless decisions ". Regarding the parents' letter to POED, it is stated: "This decision surprised us and at the same time created reasonable concerns because it was taken without any prior information or consultation, both with our Confederation and with the Cooperative Central Bank."
In addition, he states that: "On 12/05/1993 after consultations of the Superintendent of Cooperative Companies, the Confederation of Primary Parents and the POED, an agreement was signed by all parties. The Agreement is valid until today and binds us all. Also, the agreement is not renewed every year, as stated in your letter ". The text also mentions the desire for a meeting.
From the point of view of POED, the president of the organized teachers, Filios Fylaktou, told "F" that in recent years the institution of school savings presented many well-known problems, as well as practical difficulties. He also noted, regarding the agreement, that 1,5 years ago they had expressed the desire to put the institution on a new basis due to the new data that had emerged (such as the downsizing of the Cooperative Bank). Now, as Mr. Fylaktou explained, there is no such desire, as well as the desire to participate in the institution. "Teachers worked once a week as bank clerks, which they did for the teachers' cooperative fund, which no longer exists."
