Twenty-six civilians, including 11 children, were killed in airstrikes against Islamic State-controlled areas in Syria's southern province of Daraa, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
"Russian and Syrian planes have been bombing the last stronghold of the Islamic State in the southwestern part of Daraa province all day," Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Observatory, told AFP, noting that 26 civilians, including 11 children, had been killed.
According to the NGO, hundreds of airstrikes and barrel bombs hit several towns and villages controlled by the jihadist organization.
The death toll could rise as "dozens are injured, some in serious condition," Rahman added.
