Austria is the first country from February 1, 2022 to impose fines of up to 600 every three months on those citizens over the age of 14 who are not vaccinated against coronavirus.

It should be noted that Austria has been in a universal lockdown since mid-November, which is scheduled to last until Sunday 12 December.

In particular, a fine of up to 600 euros every three months will be imposed on those who are not vaccinated against Covid-19 from 1 February 2022, provides for a draft law prepared by the Austrian government.

The exceptions

Exceptions - according to Austrian public television ÖRF - will be provided for those under 14 years of age, pregnant, recovering from Covid-19 up to six months after the positive test and for those who can not be vaccinated for health reasons.

The fine can even reach 3.600 euros per dose of vaccine that will be planned by the competent authorities and will not take place.

From 15 February all permanent residents of Austria who have not been vaccinated will receive an invitation to be vaccinated on specific dates and from 15 March fines will be imposed.

A period of 1-2 days will be allowed between the 14st and 42nd dose, and the 3rd dose should be given 120-270 days after the 2nd.

Invalid certificates

By the same token, 28.423 vaccination certificates are now invalidated in Austria, as their validity was originally set at 360 days, but is now reduced to 270.

The country's ski resorts are currently open only for vaccinated and sick people, but one can not stay overnight in a hotel or visit a restaurant.

At the end of the week, the federation and the states will have to agree on the lifting of the restrictions and the measures to be taken. According to the Austrian newspaper Der Standard, even after the end of the lockdown, not all areas of public life are expected to function equally.

"It is not possible to unlock everything in one night," warned Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens).

Cases have decreased

The state of Upper Austria has already announced that it will extend the duration of the lockdown by at least a week, while the Prime Minister of Styria, Herman Sutzenhofer, told the Kleine Zeitung that strict rules could be applied to retail trade and was very cautious about concerns the operation of the catering.

The number of cases has dropped in the last two weeks, but remains high.

On Sunday, 5.192 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 were recorded. 3.029 patients with Covid-19, the 651 in Intensive Care Units.
