An alcoholic father from Limoges, France, who mainly gave Coca-Cola to his two sons, aged three and four, was sentenced to three months in prison, the children's lawyer said.
The older child lost seven teeth, which were damaged by excessive sugar consumption, while the younger one has almost stopped talking. Both are going to undergo psychological and medical examinations, said Carol Papon, a spokeswoman for France Victimes 87.
Their father was sentenced to three months in prison by a Limoges court for neglecting his paternal duties from 2016 to 2018, while the children's lawyer complained that he was violent towards them and their mother.
"The father does not know how to read, write, count (…) and spend all the money from the social allowances for the purchase of alcohol. Within a few days the family has nothing to eat. "They only have Coca-Cola," said the lawyer.
"There was nothing in the apartment, no refrigerator, the children slept on a mattress without a blanket and there were no toys (…) Their father fed them sweets and Coca Cola. "They were completely left to their own devices," said Deputy Prosecutor Brino Robin.
After the social services informed the prosecutor, the two children were given to host families.
The biggest "needed to learn that there are vegetables and meat. The youngest was assigned to another family and does not say a word ", the lawyer pointed out.
