US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is arriving in China today brief Chinese officials on the historic summit of US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

During the historic meeting, Donald Trump promised to suspendjoint military exercises with South Korea, which he acknowledged posed a "challenge" to Pyongyang.  China had made this proposal a long time ago and Beijing hastened to raise its announcement.

Following the summit in Singapore, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that tThe results, in which Kim reiterated North Korea's commitment to nuclear disarmament, are "correct and important steps" in the process of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and "meet China's expectations.".

Beijing has offered to help the United States and North Korea continue their talks and implement the decisions taken at the historic summit.

Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that he expects North Korea's nuclear disarmament to be completed before the end of the first term of US President Donald Trump in 2020.

He insisted that joint US-South Korean military exercises would resume if Pyongyang stopped showing good faith in the negotiations.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un returned to Pyongyang on Wednesday morning, North Korea's state-run KCNA news agency reported.

Several observers have suggested that Kim would choose to intervene in Beijing to inform Chinese President Xi Jinping of the outcome of the summit with Trump, which did not happen.
