Egypt's aviation minister will travel to Russia to sign protocol agreements on Friday to allow the resumption of Russian flights suspended after a tourist jet was bombed in 2015, according to Egyptian sources and the Egyptian minister.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo this week to discuss the resumption of flights and sign an agreement on a nuclear power plant as part of growing bilateral co-operation.

Two Egyptian sources said the minister would leave for Russia on Thursday, but did not confirm the date of signing the agreement.

The two governments may sign an agreement on Friday, allowing the resumption of Russian political flights, according to the TASS news agency, citing Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov.

Moscow halted civilian air traffic in Egypt in 2015 after militants detonated a bomb on a Russian flight, killing 224 people.
