The aim of the EU is to make certification a key step towards free and safe travel in the Union in the summer.

The European Parliament had approved the its negotiating position on the proposal for a certificate reaffirming the right to free movement in the EU despite the pandemic.

MEPs had agreed that the rules for the new "EU Certificate of Disease Covid-19"Instead of a" Digital Green Certificate "according to the Commission proposal, should be valid for a maximum of 12 months.

The document, which will be available in digital or printed form, will certify that a person either has been vaccinated against the coronavirus, or has received negative diagnosis after conducting a test, either has recovered from the disease.

However, these certificates will not be used as travel documents, nor will they be a condition for exercising the right of free movement, MEPs have emphasized.
