Spain: Four arrests for sexually abusing a 19-year-old

In the footsteps of the famous 'Herd'

Four Ecuadorian citizens suspected of gang-sexually assaulting a young woman on New Year's Eve have been arrested in Spain, the country's militia said on Sunday, comparing the case to the infamous act of a group of "young rapists". ) that had shocked the country.

The four youths were arrested on January 1 and taken to the prosecutor, who recommended their detention, said a spokesman for the Alicante Militia (southeast).

A 19-year-old girl was found half-naked in a semi-basement in the community of Calioso d'Ensaria, in a state of intoxication and unable to state where her house was, the police body emphasizes in its announcement.

One of the suspects in the attack, a 22-year-old man known in the past to authorities for incidents of sexual violence and sexual abuse of minors, had abused another woman last October, who filed a lawsuit, the Militia added.

The suspects, who allegedly spent the night with their alleged victim, may have sexually abused two other women on other occasions, the same statement added, but did not provide further details.

The perpetrators are also said to have filmed their act, according to information published in the Spanish press, which compares this case with that of the "Herd" (La Manada), where five young men had abused a young woman on the steps of a building. during the San Fermin celebrations in Pamplona (north) and then uploaded the rape scenes to WhatsApp, bragging about their 'feat'.

Although the five perpetrators were convicted, the court ruling sparked public outrage - and thousands of women took to the streets of Spain to protest against the 'Patriarchate' - because it did not include in the indictment and in its reasoning the crime of rape.

Last July, the socialist government announced its intention to reform the penal code to a stricter point here, introducing the principle of explicit consent to sex, by Swedish standards, where any sexual act without explicit consent is considered rape.
