Israel announced the closure of its border crossings with Gaza on Thursday, responding to last week's daily rocket attacks, following the recognition of Jerusalem by President Donald Trump as Israel's capital.

An Israeli plane struck three Hamas-owned facilities, the militant group that controls the Gaza Strip, in the early hours of Thursday, following the latest rocket attacks, according to the Israeli military, targeting training and weapons storage camps.

Hamas usually evacuates such facilities when border tensions increase.

The army said in a statement that "due to security incidents and security assessments, the Kerem Shalom crossing - the main crossing point for goods entering the Gaza Strip and pedestrian crossing - will be closed from Thursday."

About 15 rockets have been fired at southern Israel since December 6, when the controversial statement by the US President was made. None of the missiles caused serious injury or damage.

In Istanbul on Wednesday, at a summit of more than 50 Muslim countries, Israeli Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi condemned Trump's move and called on the world to respond by recognizing East Jerusalem, which occupied Israel with Israel. 1967, as the capital of Palestine.

Trump's statement was hailed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recognition of the political reality and biblical ties of the Jews to Jerusalem, a city that is also sacred to Muslims and Christians.
