US President Donald Trump has suggested to Macron that France leave the European Union so that their countries can conclude a bilateral cooperation agreement.
According to today's publication of the Washington Post, the American President asked the French President,
"Why aren't you leaving the EU?"
For months now, Trump has been stepping up his attacks on the EU, constantly denouncing what he considers to be its "unfair" commercial practices, especially in the automotive sector.
Last Wednesday, at a rally in North Dakota, Donald Trump said,
"The European Union was certainly created to benefit the United States."
Earlier in the day, Macron was asked about the report during a press conference he gave after the EU summit, but did not deny Trump's proposal.
