Malta police have arrested eight suspects in the murder of journalist and blogger Daphne Caruana Galicia, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said almost two months after her car was blown up while she was driving.
All the suspects are Maltese citizens and most have criminal records, the prime minister said, without elaborating. Police have 48 hours to interrogate the suspects and issue charges against them or release them.
Caruana Galicia, 53, was killed on October 16. He had a popular blog from which he constantly promoted high-level corruption cases aimed at politicians of all factions.
