The developments in Ukraine are dramatic after the speech of Vladimir Putin who announced the launch of a "special military operation". International media report that powerful explosions are heard this morning in Kiev, Odessa (south) and in many areas in the east of the country, after the announcement of the Russian president.

The general air and ground attack of the Russian forces on targets of Ukraine is in full swing. At least two loud explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, followed by ambulance sirens.

Thousands of Kiev residents have begun to leave the city as if in their cars, as seen in videos that were broadcast on social media.

Many even rush to the gas stations in order to fill their cars and move to the central part of the country.

Also characteristic are the images recorded on the streets of the capital, as cars have begun to form queues at the exits.

Explosions have also been reported in Kharkov, Mariupol and Odessa, while at least four were heard in Kramatorsk - which is closest to the front. At the same time, the Ukrainian government announced that it was closing all its airspace to civil aviation due to the "high risk to flight safety".

Finally, it is worth noting that - as reported by AFP - Mariupol, a city located in a strategically important port in eastern Ukraine, was attacked by "amphibians" shortly after the announcement of Vladimir Putin. It is the largest city on the front line, with half a million inhabitants and a strong Greek minority.
