Turkey will open an embassy in East Jerusalem, President Tayyip Erdogan said today, a few days after Muslim leaders called on the international community to recognize Palistini as its capital during an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Istanbul.
"God willing, the day is approaching when, with God's permission, we will officially open our embassy there," Erdogan said in a speech maintaining the same high tone against Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
As the Turkish president said in a speech to members of his party in the southern province of Karaman, the Turkish Consulate General in Jerusalem is already represented by an ambassador.
About 50 leaders and leaders of the Muslim world met in Istanbul on Wednesday (December 13th) as part of an emergency meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OCI), which President Erdogan said gave "a strong response" to the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
