Three civilians killed in Yemen during airstrikes

23 yemen bomb get BOMBARDMENT, DEAD, Yemen

At least three civilians have been killed in airstrikes in central Yemen attributed to Saudi-led coalition airstrikes, a local official told AFP on Sunday.

A car bomb had exploded at an Iraqi police recruiting center at Kisak, west of Sanaa, about 70 kilometers (XNUMX miles) northeast of Sanaa, when it was targeted by an aircraft belonging to an Arab military alliance, the official said.

The Riyadh-led alliance intervened in March 2015 in the war in Yemen to stop the advance of Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels who had occupied vast areas of the country, including the capital, which they still hold. For their part, the Houthis announced that the airstrike targeted a wedding convoy and resulted in the death of ten women.

"The enemy air force fired three blows at a convoy of women going to a wedding (…) in Harib al-Karamis," the SABA news agency, which is close to the rebels, reported. The Arab League is often criticized for its repeated "mistakes" and the deaths of civilians in its airstrikes.

The alliance's intervention in Yemen has claimed the lives of at least 8.750 people and injured tens of thousands more, according to the World Health Organization. Yemen has also become the scene of the "worst humanitarian crisis in the world", according to the United Nations. On Sunday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said via Twitter that the amount needed to provide assistance to Yemen in 2017, estimated at $ 2,3 billion, had been "just" 61 percent covered. ”.
