2.000 people fled their homes

At least 600 houses were set on fire when a large fire broke out in a slum in Manaus, Brazil.

Early indications are that the fire was caused by a pressure cooker. The flames spread quickly due to the strong winds, in the densely populated district of Educanto, where there are mainly wooden houses.

Hundreds of people were thrown from their homes in panic, trying to save what they could. More than 2.000 residents were forced to flee their homes. Four people were taken to hospitals as they inhaled smoke. More than 100 firefighters took part in the firefighting operation.
