Assange case: British authorities allow him to marry his partner in prison

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who remains incarcerated in the Belmars High Security Prison, has finally received permission from the authorities to marry his partner Stella Morris, according to British media.

Last week, Mr Assange and Ms Morris have sued Justice Minister Dominique Raab and the prison director for obstructing their marriage.

According to The Guardian, the ceremony will take place inside the prison. According to The Sun, the wedding may take place in December with other detainees invited.

The couple was held accountable five years ago. He has two children.

The Australian was arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London on April 11, 2019 and sentenced to fifty weeks in prison for violating the terms of his temporary release in 2012. He had taken refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy in the British capital to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he was facing prosecution for sexual abuse, a case that has now been dropped.

Mr Assange feared the case was a pretext for extradition to the United States, where he is wanted. faces criminal prosecution for revealing hundreds of thousands of secret diplomatic and military documents that brought to light war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. If convicted and sentenced in the United States, he faces up to 175 years in prison.

Last month, Amnesty International called on the US authorities to close the case and the British authorities to release him (24853735).
