2,65 million tourists set foot in Cyprus from January to August 2023 according to the figures of the Statistical Service.

Specifically in August 2023 tourist arrivals reached 511.387 compared to 451.133 in August 2022, marking an increase of 13,4%.

For the period January – August 2023, tourist arrivals reached 2.648.795 compared to 2.127.172 in the corresponding period of 2022, an increase of 24,5%.

From the UK the largest share of the pie

Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for August 2023, accounting for 35,9% (183.642) of total arrivals, arrivals from Israel 14,9% (76.130), arrivals from Poland 5,8% (29.495), arrivals from Germany 4,5% (23.178) and arrivals from Sweden 3,6% (18.218).

The purpose of travel in August 2023 was vacation for 86,0% of tourists, visiting friends or relatives for 11,9% and business for 2,0%. Accordingly, for August 2022, 85,5% visited Cyprus for holidays, 12,4% to visit friends or relatives and 2,1% for business reasons.

Cypriot trips abroad in August 2023 amounted to 199.920 compared to 153.563 in August 2022, an increase of 30,2%.

The main countries from which Cypriot residents returned in August 2023 were Greece with 40,4% (80.713), the United Kingdom with 5,7% (11.329), Italy with 5,3% (10.516), France with 3,7% (7.389) and Russia with 3,2% (6.490).

The purpose of travel of Cypriot residents in August 2023 was mainly holidays with a percentage of 90,4%, while professional reasons accounted for 5,9%, studies for 2,1% and other reasons for 1,5%.
