Increase of Industrial Production during the 10 months of 2021

Most economic activities in the sector record increases

Industrial production increased significantly in the first ten months of 2021, compared to the same period last year, with most economic activities in the sector recording increases.

Specifically, according to the Statistical Service, the Industrial Production Index for October 2021 reached 132,1 points (base 2015 = 100), recording an increase of 1,7% compared to October 2020.

During the period January - October 2021, the index showed an increase of 8,0% compared to the corresponding period of 2020.

In the manufacturing sector there was an increase of 2,4% compared to October 2020.

An increase was also recorded in the water supply and materials recovery sector (+ 26,0%). A negative change was observed in the sectors of electricity supply (-4,8%) and mines and quarries (-2,2%).

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to October 2020 were presented by the activities of manufacturing of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (+ 137,9%), manufacturing of products from rubber and plastics (+ 13,1%) and manufacturing furniture, other manufacturing activities and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+ 4,9%).

The most significant negative changes were observed in the production activities of petroleum refining products, chemicals and products and pharmaceuticals and preparations (-16,5%), wood industry and wood and cork products, except furniture (-14,5%), production of textiles, clothing and leather goods (-13,3%) and manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (-5,8%).

Comparing the rates of change for the period January - October 2021 with the corresponding period of the previous year, there are increases in most economic activities, with the largest of them concerning the activities: manufacturing of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (+ 62,5% ), collection, treatment and supply of water (+ 26,9%), mines and quarries (+ 18,8%), recovery of materials (+ 15,5%), manufacture of furniture, other processing activities and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+ 15,2%), production of basic metals and manufacture of metal products (+ 13,9%), manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (+ 10,8%) and manufacture of rubber and plastic products (+ 10,6%).

The only activities in which there was a decrease in production compared to the period January - October 2020 were those of the production of petroleum refining products, chemicals and products and pharmaceuticals and preparations (-8,7%) and manufacturing of paper and printing products (- 3,7%).
