Targeted restart of the economy. Construction sites will probably be the first to reopen. If everything goes smoothly, it is estimated that the thawing of the Cypriot economy in key sectors will begin in early May, according to Finance Minister Konstantinos Petridis.

The restart of the economy will be done on the basis of epidemiological data in a coordinated way, which will not endanger the effort to contain the virus in Cyprus, he added. According to information from "F", one of the sectors that is expected to start first, if conditions allow, is that of real estate and more specifically of construction sites, so that on the one hand to start a significant part of the productive activity and at the same time to gradually discharge the obligations to support workers from the state. Among the first areas that will return, according to the information are those of hairdressers, barbers and grooming.

"For the gradual opening of businesses, the epidemiological data must be met, for example, the reduction of the case curve, the adequacy of the medical system and thirdly the systematic monitoring through the conduct of a large number of sampling tests", stressed the Ministry of Culture in KYPE .

The minister said the framework includes three stages reaching the end of 2021, and called on everyone to respect the restrictive measures, especially during the Easter holidays, so that the plan to restart the economy becomes realistic.

"Essentially with the pandemic in progress and the economic cost escalating significantly, several EU countries are planning their strategy for the gradual lifting of restrictions," Petridis said in a statement, adding that the European Commission itself had issued guidelines aimed at phasing out the general lockdown, so that there is coordination between Member States to avoid adverse effects from one State to another on the smooth functioning of the single market.
