The Union of Municipalities, in an announcement, calls on all parties to be represented in the new Parliament, which will emerge from the upcoming parliamentary elections of May 30, 2021, to reconsider the issue of Reform on the basis of the bill, submitted by the Ministry of Interior.

As a Union of Municipalities, it is noted, we reiterate that we remain committed and committed to the implementation of the TA reform. and we insist on our basic and main positions, as they were formed, after a broad consensus, during the consultation, which preceded the Ministry of Interior.

However, it is with great sadness, the announcement continues, that we observe that, apparently, this reform is leading to the Greek calendars, having in mind the forthcoming parliamentary elections of May 30, 2021 and the municipal elections, which will follow around the beginning of December 2021. The above concerns and reservations are added, reinforced by the current developments and the changes that have taken place, in the reform bill.

"We consider it necessary to point out that in a recent poll by RIK, the citizens expressed their appreciation for the institution of Local Government at a rate of 62%, which shows that the Local Authorities have, over time, regained the trust of the citizens, through commitment. in their work and mission, placing the Municipalities and the Communities in the first place, among the representative institutions of the Republic of Cyprus, much higher than the other institutions and the only one with a positive sign ", it is noted.

We remind you that this is perhaps the most important effort to modernize the local government system since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus and which aims to provide better and more quality services to citizens, at the lowest possible cost and to ensure the improvement of the quality of life. of our fellow citizens.
