Operation to crack down on human trafficking - How many were arrested

The Office for Combating Trafficking in Persons and the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor took part in the operations

Between the dates 24-30/10, joint European operations were carried out, with the aim of combating sexual exploitation. The Office for Combating Trafficking in Persons and the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labor took part in the operations.

As part of the operations, which were carried out with the cooperation of the Limassol Police Department (OPE, TAE, YAM), seven properties were checked and 39 people were identified, including a possible victim of sex trafficking, who was taken to a shelter, for the appropriate procedures.

Also, 17 people were identified, who were reported for undeclared work and two foreign women were arrested for the offenses of illegal stay and illegal employment.

Additionally, within the framework of the participation of the Office for Combating Trafficking in Persons and the Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour, in the joint European undertakings, for the suppression of labor exploitation, ten premises were checked and 36 persons were identified.

From the relevant checks, five people were arrested for the offenses of illegal stay and illegal work. The operations in question were carried out between the dates 14-21/09/2022.
