The US Secretary of State is in Cyprus today
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is paying an official visit to Cyprus today, just 24 hours after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov paid a visit to the country. Pompeo's visit to Cyprus was scheduled at the last minute after the US Secretary of State was on an official visit to Qatar.
It is noted that the US Secretary of State will remain in our country for just a few hours and will be received by the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis, at the Presidential Palace, at 7:30 pm and the meeting will be attended by Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis
It is recalled that Mike Pompeo had planned a visit to Cyprus last January, which was postponed with the US Secretary of State choosing this period due to the crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The talks with Nikos Anastastasiadis and Nikos Christodoulidis are expected to focus on the strengthening of bilateral relations between the United States and the Republic of Cyprus, the Turkish challenges in the region and the Cyprus issue.
Strict message from Pompeo to Turkey
Meanwhile, in yesterday's statements, Mike Pompeo called for the resolution of the dispute that has erupted between Greece and Turkey after the ongoing provocations of Ankara with the successive NAVTEX publications and the presence of "Oruts Reyes" on the Greek continental shelf in a double continental shelf.
In particular, Pompeo calls for warships to leave the area for talks to take place.
