The Police are ready to implement new measures in an effort to reduce fatal traffic accidents and consolidate road awareness.

One of these measures is the new speed control radars, which will be available to traffic from the beginning of 2020.

The new generation radars will be installed in Police vehicles (on the dashboard of the car) and will control the drivers in front, those coming from the opposite direction, while at the same time the vehicles where they are on the side of the vehicle - radar.

For example, if a driver overtakes a police vehicle, the radar will be able to detect him.

Speaking on the Offsite website, the Assistant Director of the Traffic Department, Haris Evripidou, explained that the specific radars will work.

In detail, the radar vehicle will follow the car for which it wants to check speed, counting at the same time its speed for some distance before stopping it for violation.

This is an important parameter because in order to be able to complain about exceeding the speed limit, the speed is measured in motion and not from a static point and the measurement must last for some continuous distance.

It is worth noting that in various countries where this metro is applied, the police vehicle must count the speed, in some countries for one kilometer and for some other 2 kilometers.

As far as Cyprus is concerned, it is not yet known how much this control will be.

It should be noted that these radars, which will be inside the Police vehicles, will also be used as fixed radars inside the highways.

According to Mr. Evripidou, the new radars will be installed in patrol cars but also in cars that will not have Police badges.
