As part of the breastfeeding promotion month events, the Ministry of Health and the National Breastfeeding Committee organized on Thursday, the first of two scheduled Breastfeeding Days for Health Professionals, at the Siakolei Training Center for Clinical Medicine, in Nicosia. The 2nd Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 2022.
As stated in an announcement, this year's Workshops are a continuation of previous years' workshops with the aim of promoting the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Initiative of the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
The Workshops this year focus on the training of involved health professionals who are employed not only in hospitals/maternities but also in the community (Midwives, Nurses and Health Visitors) where the mother-infant dyad receives health care, lives, is active and are developing.
The aim of the workshops, it is noted, is to promote the creation in our country of a culture friendly to the infant and the nursing mother.
The presentations of the Workshops include presentations on the 10 Steps of Breastfeeding and the provisions of the Initiative for Baby-Friendly Hospitals, on the benefits of breastfeeding, as well as on Health Education programs that are promoted in the context of information, education and awareness of the population , starting from childhood and continuing throughout the life cycle.
Also, through the organization of interactive workshops, participants are given the opportunity through case studies to learn about the correct way to deal with common breastfeeding difficulties/problems, myths and truths surrounding breastfeeding.
