"Elpis" continues to affect Cyprus with storms, rain and snow expected today.

The temperature will rise to around 10 degrees inland, around 12 on the coast and around minus 1 degree in the higher mountains, where frost is expected.

The barometric low Elpis moves east and gradually weakens, however affecting the weather in the area.

Today, the weather will be mostly cloudy and in the morning rain or local thunderstorms are expected in places, mainly in the western half of the island. At noon and in the afternoon, local rains or isolated thunderstorms are expected in other areas, while in the mountains it is generally expected to snow from time to time. The winds will blow in the morning mainly westerly to northwesterly, moderate, 4 Beaufort and locally up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort to become southwesterly to westerly and locally to northwesterly, of the same intensity. The sea will be up to turbulent, on the south and east coasts and up to wavy, on the west and north coasts. The temperature will rise to around 10 degrees inland, around 12 on the coast and around minus 1 degree in the higher mountains, where frost is expected.

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly cloudy and initially local rains are expected, while a single storm is not ruled out on the coast. In the mountains and locally in the semi-mountains it will snow from time to time, while towards the waking hours mainly, a gradual improvement of the phenomena is expected. The winds will initially blow mainly southwesterly to westerly, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort but in the leewardry moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort to soon become northwesterly to northeasterly, of the same intensity. The sea will be up to turbulent on the south and east coasts and up to wavy on the rest of the coast. The temperature will drop to around zero inland, around 4 degrees on the south and east coasts, around 5 on the west and north coasts and around minus 5 degrees in the higher mountains. In the mountains, in the semi-mountains but also in the leeward areas of the interior, frost is expected to form.

On Thursday, periods of sunshine will alternate with periods of increased cloudiness, which is not excluded to give isolated rain, mainly early in the morning as well as light snowfall in the mountains or locally and in the semi-mountains. On Friday and Saturday, the weather will be partly cloudy and in places mostly cloudy, while isolated occasional rains and snow in the mountains are expected. During the three days, frost is expected to prevail throughout the day, mainly in areas in the higher mountains.

The temperature until Friday is not expected to change significantly while on Saturday a slight increase is expected, to remain significantly below average climatic values.
