With differentiations the registrations / transfers in Kindergartens, Primary Schools for the year 2021-2022

Due to the emergency situation that has been created, due to the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19, the registrations / transfers in the Kindergartens and the Primary Schools for the school year 2021-2022, will be made with some differences from the previous school years, states, in an announcement, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (Ministry of Culture). Π.Α.Ν.).

In particular, the Ministry of Education states that the enrollment period has been extended to avoid parent / guardianship scheduling in schools and, at the same time, the enrollment / transfer process has been somewhat differentiated to minimize the physical presence of parents / guardians in schools and District Education Offices.

For the smooth conduct of registrations / transfers, the Ministry states that the registrations of students for the school year 2021-2022 in Public Kindergartens and Primary Schools, will take place from 11 to 18 January 2021.

Notes that there will be no new enrollment period, except for students who for a reasonable reason could not enroll during the above time period and therefore, parents / guardians are urged to adhere to the timetables and respond within of the registration / transfer period.

He adds that no school will approve additional sections from those resulting from the January enrollment and therefore those parents / guardians who do not enroll their children in January will be required to enroll them at the nearest school in their area, where there will be vacancies.

The Ministry of Education states that after January 18, 2021, those parents / guardians who apply for registration or transfer of their child, should contact the relevant District Education Office (EPA) and not the schools.

"In these cases, the physical presence of the parents / guardians is not required to submit the application for registration / transfer. As long as the necessary forms are fully completed and the required documents / certificates are attached. That is why parents / guardians are encouraged to send the relevant forms / documents / certificates, via e-mail or fax to the relevant EGP without going to the EGP themselves ", he adds.

He notes that the Unified All-Day Schools (EOS) have compulsory attendance until 15:05 or until 16:00 (except Wednesday where the hours are 7:45 to 13:05).

As he states, there is only one departure time for all their students of each EOS and those parents / guardians who can not meet the specific schedule, should after enrolling their child in the EOS, which is the school of education of the district, to request transfer to another school, within the registration / transfer schedules (January 11-18, 2021).

Registration process for the period 11-18 January 2021

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Education, without the physical presence of the parents / guardians for the students who during the current school year attend: in the grades AD - ED Primary, in the Compulsory Pre-Primary Education (ie children with date of birth 1/9/2015 - 31/12/2015), in the Kindergarten of their educational district and have a date of birth 1/1/2016 - 31/12/2016.

For the above categories of students, the following registration / transfer procedure will be followed:

January 8, 2021: Schools send to parents / guardians, through children, a form for Registration. The schools that operate with A and B Cycle, additionally send, the form DDE 11 for the children of the third grade.

January 11-13, 2021: Parents / guardians complete the form and send it, through their children, back to school. The children of the DG class also submit the completed DDE form 11.

January 14, 2021: Schools check the forms they have collected to see if there are any parents / guardians wishing to transfer their child. In these cases, the TDI form 33 is promoted through the specific children.

Until January 18, 2021: Returns of the PDE 33 and everything else requested by the schools in order to complete the registrations are returned to the school.

With physical presence of the parents / guardians: Only for the students who will enroll for the first time in the specific Public Kindergarten or Primary school.

The following registration / transfer procedure will be followed for the specific students:

January 11-18, 2021: Parents / guardians submit to the school of their educational district, all the necessary forms / certificates / documents for the registration of their child and the application for transfer (if they wish to transfer).

According to the Ministry of Education, in strict compliance with all health protocols, parents / guardians come to the school where it has been determined to conduct enrollment, having completed, in advance, all the necessary forms.

A limited number of parents / guardians enter the registration area, observing all safety measures (antiseptic at the entrance of the premises, masks, distances, etc.).

There will be teaching staff or the school secretariat to receive the documents.

The documents are checked by the teaching staff / secretariat for their complete and correct completion and the educational district of the child is confirmed.

Parents / guardians are given a "Certificate of Registration" (form DDE 28).

Registration Right

According to the Ministry of Education, all children of any nationality residing in Cyprus have the right to register, regardless of the legal or illegal stay of their parents / guardians on the island.

Additionally, children born from September 1, 2016 until December 31, 2016 are eligible for enrollment in the Compulsory Pre-Primary Education, while children born from September 1, 2015 until August 31, 2016 are eligible for enrollment in the Pre-Elementary Class.

Also accepted for enrollment in the first grade are children born from November 1, 2014 until August 31, 2015.

Applications for enrollment in Public Kindergartens can also be submitted by children born from the 1st of January 2017 until the 31st of August 2018.

According to the Ministry of Education, when enrolling students in a Public Primary School for the first time (high school students and any other elementary school students from private schools or schools abroad), parents must provide a copy of the Vaccination Card or the relevant page of the Health Booklet, where the vaccination status of the child will be displayed and his name will be written.

According to the Ministry, the examination of applications for transfer will be conducted between January 21 and February 5, 2021 and there will be no other period of examination of transfers.

For the approved or non-approved transfers, the relevant EGPs will inform the affected schools by letter by fax no later than February 8, 2021. The schools where the children were registered will inform the affected parents / guardians, during the period February 8-12, 2021, so that, within a week, they can get the documents from one school and enroll in the other school or file an objection, if they wish.

According to the Ministry of Education, no pending registration / transfer should be left after 19 February 2021.

In addition, applications for enrollment in Public Kindergartens can be submitted by children under the age of 3 - 48/12 years, ie those children who were born from January 1, 2017 until August 31, 2018, and the application can be submitted to any kindergarten.
