According to AKEL MP George Georgiou, due to the fact that, mainly during the summer months, in tourist areas of Cyprus, the misuse of nitrous oxide as a psychoactive substance has been observed, the Ministry of Health submitted to Parliament the approved regulations , in order to exercise control over its use for recreational purposes, separating the cases where it is legally used as a food additive or for medical purposes.

The well-known "gas of laughter" circulates in balloons in places of entertainment of the youth and as the authorities have informed us, whoever inhales it can, in addition to a temporary feeling of joy and happiness, cause dizziness, vomiting, nausea, tachycardia, tachycardia. even stroke leading to immediate death.

As the Executive Director of the Cyprus Addiction Treatment Authority stated in Parliament, there is no common approach to the issue in the European Union, but he has occupied the Horizontal Working Group on Drugs. A similar legal regulation to that proposed in the amending bill exists in the United Kingdom.

"Our youth, said MP Georgiou, should be informed about the dangers of any use of this substance, while at the same time measures should be taken to combat any form of illegal supply or preparation, for" recreational purposes ".
