The "election" of a leader is a decision of the Turkish Cypriots themselves and the Government does not want to be involved in this process, said Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios, speaking on state radio.
As the first reaction of Nicosia to the "election" of Ersin Tatar as the new occupying leader, Mr. Kousios said that what matters is that Tatars respond positively to the new initiative of the UN Secretary General on the Cyprus issue, when it occurs.
As he said, the Greek Cypriot side will wait to see how both the occupying leader and Turkey will react to the new call of the UN Secretary General, emphasizing the crucial role of Turkey in resolving the Cyprus issue.
He stressed that there is an agreed solution framework, reiterating the determination of the Greek Cypriot side to negotiate on the basis of what has been agreed.
